Swim Team Week 0

Hello Crestwood families!

Thank you so much for your patience as we were figuring out all the logistics of yet another unconventional season.

If you have not already done so, please text “@cwswim2021” to 81010in order to subscribe to our Remind thread for this season before you keep reading. This is not the same Remind from last season so it is very important that you join!!! This will be our chief means of communication for practice cancellations and other important updates, especially those that are time-sensitive.

Attached to this email you will find the practice group assignments (these assignments are subject to change) and times for Week One, beginning Tuesday, June 1. Please note that for the first week, Tuesday (June 1), Wednesday (June 2), and Thursday (June 3) we will be holding practices in the evening to accommodate the schedules of various local schools. We will begin practicing in the morning on Friday, June 4. The times for all practices can be found in the attachment specifying practice assignments.

For each practice, swimmers should bring: their own cap and goggles, their own water bottle, their own towel, and their own mask for practice on June 1. This is important in case unforeseen weather conditions arise and we must gather underneath the shelters. We also would like to remind you that there will be no changing at the pool, and limited use of the bathrooms. Please have your swimmer arrive and leave in their suit.

We understand that some swimmers over the age of 12 may have received their vaccinations. We are still asking that these swimmers at the very least continue to bring a mask to practice, just in case the need arises. In an effort to make all of our families feel comfortable, we plan to use some social distancing procedures that worked well last year.

As we will be taking attendance at practice, please arrive no more than 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled practice time to sign in. Arriving any earlier or later will make it harder to maintain social distance and take attendance effectively. Please enter through the front gate as you arrive. At the end of your scheduled practice, we ask that you exit through the back gate to avoid close proximity with other families entering at the same time.

Lastly, in an effort to ensure the safest season possible, we will be testing every swimmer on their first day of practice to confirm that they are able to swim 25 meters unassisted. This is in the interest of safety, as GDSA restrictions still bar the use of catchers in the 6 and under 42 foot freestyle, so those athletes will need to be able to finish the event and safely exit the water. We are aware that new or first year swimmers may not be able to complete this at the beginning of the season. This gives us a good indication of what level the swimmers are and the coaches will go over this on the first day of practice.

As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, you are welcome to contact any one of us on the coaching staff. We look forward to seeing you all soon!!

Stay safe,
